|Direction of Mail:||Incoming Mail|
|Comments:||With the increased activity in oil exploration off Das Island the requirements for a mail service gathered momentum. During the year 1959 an arrangement for providing a mail service for the several hundreds of oil company workers on Das Island was established and the mail service was done via Bahrain.
This is a cover representing incoming mail to Das Island in early 1959 – March 4th 1959. The franking is the 1957 set of local stamps of Bahrain, which was meant for only domestic mail. The nature of the franking points towards philatelic use, however, the address of Das Island and the early 1959 date means that this is a very early example of mail relating to Abu Dhabi – possibly the earliest known mail.
