Abu Dhabi Stamps and Postal History

Direction of Mail:Outgoing Mail
Cover Type:Airmail
Comments:On the 11th of January 1939 the Ruler of Abu Dhabi signed a concession agreement with Petroleum Concessions Limited, which was a consortium of international oil companies. The firm established a local subsidiary called “Petroleum Development – Trucial Coast” – PDTC. PDTC had its offices at Tarif, west of Abu Dhabi, and they maintained their post office box in Bahrain. As such all incoming and outgoing mail was dispatched via Bahrain by boats. Mail from PDTC in Tarif can only be identified if it carries the sender’s address and mail from this location is very rare. The cover is franked with the 1 Rupee standard Bahraini airmail rate to the U.S.
