Abu Dhabi Stamps and Postal History

COVER DETAILS
[SUPERSIZE IMAGE]
Location:Al-Ain
Direction of Mail:Outgoing Mail
Cover Type:Airmail
Comments:This cover is very interesting from a couple of perspectives. First of all it is registered mail to Australia, which is a scarce destination. It is franked with a number of stamps totaling 80 Fils of which the registration fee is 65 Fils. This corresponds to none of the existing rates at the time but 15 Fils was actually the printed matter rate in 1964. The receiving postal cancellation clearly shows that the cover was never sealed. Another interesting detail is the use of registration label “Abu Dhabi X”. This label is known used on mail from Abu Dhabi as well as Al-Ain indicating that the label was probably meant for universal use throughout the Emirate.
