Story Behind the Cancellation:Upon the withdrawal of the Trucial States date-stamps, such as the single-circle numerical cancellers and the different Al-Ain cancellers, a new type of double-circle canceller was introduced toward the end of 1972. With the Emirate of Abu Dhabi now being part of the federation of United Arab Emirates the inscription UAE was added to the canceller for the first time. The canceller is bilingual but only the location within the emirate was inscribed in Arabic.
