Abu Dhabi Stamps and Postal History

Stamp SetWith the 1969 Christmas season approaching heavy demand for stamps of the 25 Fils airmail rate for greeting cards to Europe, India, Pakistan and the Arab Countries required an emergency surcharge “25” on the 15 Fils 1967 definitive stamp. The revaluing was done by means of a hand numbering machine set to repeat and was executed with surprising accuracy.

Due to the nature of the overprinting errors and varieties are found. The most prominent and also very rare error is the “Double Value” error. Varieties such as broken figures and light or weary impression are more common.

The provisional was place on sale on the 13th of December 1969 and all 20.000 copies were sold at post office counters by Christmas Eve. The majority of the stamps were either used singly on greeting cards or lost to philatelist. The stamp was never put on sale at the Crown Agents.
